I feel that this man symbolizes the struggle for freedom. Freedom is a hard thing to recieve. This man's face shows the emotions of pain and struggling that comes with the fight for liberty. What do you think about it?

This picture is very meaningful. This shows a group of Refusniks who just arrived in Israel. The man closest up has a relieve, yet confused look on his face. He has waited a long time to get to Israel to leave as a free Jew. Something interesting about him is that he still has a sash with all his army metals on them. It shows that even though he wanted to go to Israel, he still had a connection to the Soviet Union. He had served them as a army general and he feels like he still had a connection with them. This shows that even though a lot of people wanted to go to Israel, some people still had a connection with the place they had lived there whole life, the Soviet Union.

In the photo is a picture of a Soviet Union Jewish soldier coming to the land of Israel. I think it symbolizes the hard life of all the Jews no matter who they were: a soldier, a baker, anything. But in the end every singler one of them belonged in Israel and they had finally reached it. They all looked different but they all had the same expression. All of their expressions show some mix of sadness and happiness. Sadness that they were no longer in their homeland but happiness that they were finally free of Anti-semitism. They were scared that they were in a new place but but they had hope that their life would be better in Israel and that they weren't alone.

This picture has a lot of emotions. These Refusniks just arrived in Israel. The man you see looks very relieved to be there. He went through a long struggle to get there. He has a few buttons and pins from the army. He must have served in the army. This picture shows me that no matter who you are, you still have to fight for what you want.

This picture to me symbolizes that through all the hardship this man has been through he has finally arrived at his destination. he seems that he is in awe that he finally arrived in Palestine. Our teachers discussed this photo with us. The man has honors, medals. This is proved by the medals he is wearing. Jews in the Soviet Union was very anti-semtic. this man looked as if he served with them and for them. The man was on one of the first flights to Israel.

Kianna said...

This picture resembles all the Refusniks; this particular person was proud of Russia, and even served in the army, but he is arriving in Isreal. He resembles that they were sad and series when arriving, but there is hope. They all miss their old country, but they are zionest and came to Isreal. They resemble the thousands that came from Russia in hope of a better life.

It shows that even though he is moving to Isreal, he still has ties to Russia, his old country. He used to love his old country, but is moving. This single person represents those who had ties to other places, and was denied access to Isreal, but eventually get to Isreal.

This man looks like he has been through many things. He may have been getting off the plane in Israel, or he could be rejected and sent away from the plane. The badges on him show that he is from the Soviet Union, and he is loyal to his country. He looks like he has had a very tough life living in the Soviet Union. The people behind him also look like they have had a very tough life. This man symbolizes freedom and will live a happy life in Israel without anti-semestism and there will be no communists watching over him in Israel. He will no longer be rejected by the Soviet Union.

feel that this man is very hurt emotionaly. he seems not very old physicaly, but old emotionaly, and hurt. he seems betrayed, but still proud. he looks as if he had just completed a long journey, that tired him and put him through emotional and physical termoil, and aging him immincely. the intersesting thing is that, as we learneded about him in class, he is trying to get away from russia. yet all this time he is wearing all of his soviet pins on his jacket. this shows that he did not want to have to leave, and that he loved his country, but could not tolerate all the oppression in his homeland.

I feel like this man represents a comfused man who finally reached Israel. He is comfused because he is a loyal Soviet Union soldier who is now leaving his home for a new home. He is grateful for being allowed into the Jewish homeland, but still loves his own country. He is also probalby relieved to be allowed into Israel and now feels like a free man. He most likely has been waiting a long time to get into Israel, and now that he is there, his life is completely different. He represents all the people loyal to Russia, and are now free to leave and enter the land of Israel. I imagine it must be hard to leave the country you were born in and have lived your entire life in for a new land with no money or anything. This man must have have a difficult, and stressful life filled with many problems to deal with.

Yoni Gershon said...

I think this man is carrying his home on his shoulders and is starting a new time for himself and for his people. He has come to Israel after much hardship and is relieved to have finally arrived there.

I think that this picture is very interestingand meaningful and it shows different things. It clearly gives an idea of how difficult it was for the immigrants to leave their country after living there for generations. Some of them, like the man in the front, even fought for his country, but he had to leave just because he was a Jew by birth. The picture also does a good job showing how promising the land of Israel was for all the Refusnicks, it was their first choiceof where to go. I am sure it is very difficult to leave the country you have lived in and love and fought for, but making aliyah to the Promised Land its a very good opportunity.

This picture is a group of Refusniks who have just landed in Israel. The man is still wearing his pins from the Soviet Union, showing the Refusniks attachment to their homeland. Their faces show many emotions such as, joy and sadness. They did not wish to leave their homes and lives, but were forced to. Some are happy that they have left their horrible lives in the Soviet Union. None of them wished to leave and only wanted freedom.

DillonS said...

This photo is very emotional. Thsi man has gone through a lot of tough scenes in his life. You can tell he is sad, but at the same time he is relieved.

sam said...

The man looks very tired and ready to be home and have freedom. He also gives me a sense of hope for the people coming to Israel because it lokks as if me might of made it there.

LindsayGerard said...

I think the photo shows many different emotions. It shows struggle and sorrow. Although the man does not express it, he seems happy and relieved to finally be in the Promised Land, away from all the terror in Russia. But I also see some nostalgia on his face because he stills wears openly Russian medals, and that tells me he is still somewhat loyal to Russia even though they mistreated him and many other Jews.

JosephBerman said...

This picture evokes alot of emotional. It seems the people have just arrived in israel. To me that man looks very happy but hes keeping it in. He has pins that make me think he was in the army. This picture shows me that it doesn't matter who you are you still have to fight for the things you like.

Lilly Stafford said...

I think that this man looks very strong and brave while also looking beaten and tired. Being trapped for such a long time must have been so hard for all of the Jews. All they have been waiting for is to go to Israel. It shows such great commitment towards his freedom and not giving up, and I think that is something we can all honor.

KaliaPopp said...

This picture shows that the man may be looking for something that he can not find. He is trying to find a clue oor a symbol that everything will be okay. He also has a very calm look on his face as to say he knows that everything will be alright very soon. He knows that he has arrived to safety and that he will be more accepted where he ended up.

I also think this pictures shows that some of them were happy and sad to leave. They didnt really want to leave their lives in the soviet Union but some of them were happy to leave their bad lives behind them.

Arielle Iola said...

This a very expressive picture. It shows how it was not easy for anyone to come to the land of Israel, when they had been accustomed to a totally different experiance in the Soviet Union. This man's facial expression shows the relief and wonder that he will endure from arriving at this new place. This is what he has been striving to reach; now he has finally reached his ambition. He has yet to begin his new life and leave the old one behind him.

Kayley said...

This man is entering a land of which he has dreamed of for what seems like eternity. He is filled with sadness and happiness at the same time. Sadness because this man has left his home forever. His experiences in the Soviet Union have aged him. Through all the trouble he was still loyal to his country. He is Happiness because he has fufilled his dream of going to Israel. He is probebly thinking about his past and now...now he is in Israel!

tali said...

The mans face in the photo shows the effects of his stuggle to get to Israel and emotional toll this long wait has had on his spirit. The army pins on his jacket show that though he was persecuted, he remained loyal to the country he was from. These Refuseniks led a hard life in the Soviet Union, but the love for their country remained strong. Now free in the holy land, he most likely feels relieved but also scared of the unknown world he is entering.

This man represents how the Jews struggled on their journey to Israel. You can tell everyone in the picture feels pain but deep down they are probably relieved

About the picture-
In this picture we all can see an old man, that sees very sad.
behind him, there is an airplane and on it it says "ELAL" (אל-על).
ELAL is an Israeli airline company.
so we can understand from it that the man is doing "aliya" ,apparently this is his first time in Israel.
Also, we can see that the man is wearing many pins that are expressing (I think) the wars that he took part in.

He looks confused, sad but very excited to go back again to his real homeland, the Jewish homeland – Israel.

Dear Barak,
The medals might show his painful past but also it could show how dedicated he was to the country that was cruel to him and his people. He fought for his country and loved Russia and even now that he is in a new and holy land he still has strong ties to his native land. He is happy to be free in Israel but he also misses the land that has been his home.
